First Phase of Teaching Practice Journey

"Stepping into the Classroom: My First Phase of Teaching Practice Journey"

From August 21 to August 23 2024, I embarked on an exciting journey that marked the beginning of my teaching practice. The first phase was a whirlwind of emotions—excitement, eagerness, and a little bit of anxiety. Yet, I absolutely adored every moment of it. The highlight of the experience was being addressed as "TEACHER" by both students and teachers, a simple word that filled me with immense pride and joy.

On the very first day, I was assigned to the 8 S and IX I classes, where I worked alongside their regular instructor. Taking on the responsibility of guiding the class was both thrilling and eye-opening. However, my substitute classes were more challenging in the beginning, testing my classroom management skills. It was tough to handle, but it taught me valuable lessons in patience and adaptability. The next two days introduced me to something truly special—the school’s arts festival. The festival was an absolute highlight, showcasing the incredible talent and confidence of the students as they performed and displayed their art. The energy was contagious, and I couldn’t help but admire their poise and self-expression. It was a reminder of the importance of fostering creativity and confidence in students. One aspect that made this school experience stand out was its unique tradition—everything began with a prayer. The peaceful atmosphere it created was uplifting and set a positive tone for the entire day. It was a beautiful reminder of how small practices can create a nurturing environment for learning.Overall, my first phase of teaching practice was a wonderful experience filled with growth, challenges, and inspiration. I look forward to the next steps in this journey and the lessons that lie ahead!

Week 2 of My Teaching Practice: Onam Celebrations Begin

The second week of my teaching practice, from August 26 to August 30, 2024, started on a relaxed note with a public holiday. Monday was celebrated as Sree Krishna Jayanthi, so there was no school that day, allowing me a brief break before diving into the week ahead.

Tuesday marked the return to school, and it was a busy day filled with preparations for the upcoming Onam celebrations. The excitement was palpable, as the school was gearing up for one of the biggest festivals of the year. The main task assigned to me that day was sorting the groceries for the Onam feast, which was scheduled for Friday, August 30th.

The head of the school had decided that the Onam feast would be a collective effort, with students contributing grocery items from home. The class leaders played an essential role in this process, collecting the items from their peers and bringing them to the library. As trainees, we were entrusted with the duty of sorting these groceries, ensuring everything was in order for the grand celebration. It was an excellent opportunity to contribute to the school's cultural activities and work alongside fellow trainees in a team setting.

The sense of community and teamwork was inspiring, and I felt a deep sense of involvement as we prepared for the Onam feast. It was more than just a celebration—it was a reminder of how school events can bring everyone together in a spirit of unity and joy. I look forward to the rest of the week and all the experiences it holds!

This week, my teaching practice journey continued with a variety of activities and experiences that I will cherish. On Tuesday, I had my regular class with the 8 S. The focus of the lesson was revising  chapters, and I had the opportunity to engage the students by asking them questions. It was rewarding to see them actively participate and apply their knowledge.

Wednesday was a holiday in celebration of Ayyankali Jayanthi, giving us all a mid-week break to relax and recharge.

Thursday was back to regular classes, and the day was filled with a variety of duties and moments of joy. One of my main responsibilities was continuing with the sorting of items for the Onam celebrations. However, the highlight of the day was my substitution class with the 8-X students during the 3rd period. I thoroughly enjoyed interacting with them, as they were incredibly enthusiastic and eager to learn. Their curiosity and energy made the class a lot of fun.

After lunch, the trainees were assigned the task of cutting vegetables for the Onam feast. It was a hands-on experience that I thoroughly enjoyed. What made it even better was the help we received from the students, who eagerly pitched in to assist with the vegetable cutting. Their teamwork and willingness to help made the task go smoothly and gave me a deeper sense of connection with them.

Overall, this week has been filled with learning, responsibility, and meaningful interactions with both students and fellow trainees. Each day brings new experiences, and I'm excited for what lies ahead in this teaching journey.

Onam Celebration: A Day to Remember

Friday was the grand Onam celebration at school, and it turned out to be an experience that I will always cherish. The highlight of the day was the Onam feast, where lunch was provided for an incredible 8,000 students. This was my first time being involved in such a large-scale event, and the entire experience was absolutely unforgettable.

The excitement in the air was contagious, and we truly enjoyed every moment of it. One of my key duties was helping in the noon meal hall, where we worked together with the students from the higher secondary section. They were incredibly helpful, assisting us in serving the food with great enthusiasm and teamwork. Their energy and willingness to pitch in made everything run smoothly, creating a sense of unity among us all.

From the bottom of my heart, I can say that I thoroughly enjoyed this experience. It was something new and completely different, and the best part was being able to share it with everyone. There’s something special about coming together as a community to celebrate and work toward a common goal. This Onam celebration wasn’t just about the feast—it was about the connections we made and the joy of working together. I’ll carry these beautiful memories with me as I continue on my teaching journey.

Starting a New Phase: A Week of New Experiences and Learning

After the community living camp, the second phase of my teaching practice began on September 30, 2024, bringing with it new challenges and opportunities. I was both excited and surprised. It felt like a big step in my teaching journey, and the experience was both fulfilling and a little nerve-wracking.

That day, I had kitchen duty, which was a completely new experience for me. I had the chance to cut vegetables alongside other students from different colleges. It was a fun and collaborative environment, and I appreciated the opportunity to work with others outside my usual circle.

Tuesday marked a special milestone—I was fully prepared to take my  class on magnetism. Despite the usual hustle of substitution duties, I managed to help 8 O complete their social science notes in the 5th period. In the 6th period. The students' attentiveness and enthusiasm made my day, as they actively responded to every question. By the last period, we unwound by watching an exciting cricket match on the school grounds.

Thursday was another eventful day, filled with expectations and responsibilities. I had both line duty and mess duty, where we served rice, pickle, curry, and soya to the students. I noticed how studious and interactive they were, eagerly participating in activities and engaging with teachers. It was heartening to see their curiosity shine through!

Friday started with rain and a heavy workload that made me feel a bit under the weather. But since it was PTA meeting day, I didn’t have any classes—just mess duty. Despite the exhaustion, I truly enjoyed this week. My teaching practice is progressing in the best possible way, and every day is a new learning experience!

From 7/10/2024 to 10/10/2024

Monday marked the beginning of another phase—a fresh start filled with expectations but ending with a tinge of disappointment. The day began with the usual morning prayer, followed by lunch duty, where we served rice, chicken curry, salad, and rasam. I also had a class with 8th S, wrapping up the remaining portion of Magnetism.

Tuesday was nothing short of hectic! The morning started on a pleasant note, but soon, I was caught up in a whirlwind of responsibilities—kitchen duty, noon meal duty, milk distribution, two class periods, and evening line duty. The exhaustion was real! We served rice, sambar, pickle, and thoran for lunch. Despite the chaos, I managed to start a new chapter. By evening, fatigue hit hard, but the work continued.

Wednesday was a refreshing contrast—calm and pleasant. The morning felt warm and inviting. I had kitchen duty during the first period, followed by two classes where I covered the remaining topics. I also had a substitution period with 8th Y, where I collected data for my general paper practicum. The students were cooperative, making the process smooth.

Thursday brought a mix of confusion and discomfort, but I chose to trust my teachers and hold on to the truth. I had two hours of class and coveredthe portions. The latter feeling more like a revision session. Lunch duty was also part of the day. Sometimes, it’s in these little moments that we truly see people for who they are—how they act when given the chance.

Now, with a three-day holiday ahead, there’s a sense of relief and excitement for the Pooja holiday trip! Looking forward to the break and the new experiences it will bring!

14/10/2024 to 18/10/2024

After a refreshing three-day holiday and a wonderful family trip, I was back at school, ready for another eventful week!

Monday kicked off with an exciting task—Leena Ma’am, our optional teacher, visited for observation. Though I didn’t have my turn that day, I taught Magnetism. I engaged students with activities and provided notes. The day also included kitchen duty, evening attendance, and a quick visit to college to get my lesson plans signed.

Tuesday was my observation day! I got two periods—one forRedox reaction for IX I. After the class, my teacher gave valuable feedback on improving my lessons. I also had lunch duty and checked students’ notes . Unfortunately, only a few had completed them, while most hadn’t submitted their work.

Wednesday brought another round of observation—this time by my general teacher. I taught artifical magnets, overall feedback was good about my classes.  I also had a substitution period in 8th R, where I met a group of incredibly studious students. Lunch duty kept me busy, and later, our college principal visited for observation. A highlight of the day was sharing tea with Ma’am at the school canteen—a small yet special moment!

Thursday felt much more relaxed as the observations were finally over! With two class periods and only line duty for the day, I could breathe a little easier. Anupama teacher also came for observation, and the MTTC trainees conducted an exhibition for World Wide Fund for Nature Day—an informative and engaging experience.

Friday arrived with the joy of the weekend ahead! After the morning prayer, I introduced a new chapter in my two periods, setting the stage for an exciting learning journey. The school auditorium buzzed with practice sessions for an upcoming event, adding to the day's lively atmosphere.

As the week wrapped up, I felt a sense of accomplishment—each challenge and observation brought new insights, making my teaching practice more enriching!

   21/10/2024 to 25/10/2024

Monday marked the beginning of a new week, filled with expectations and experiences. I reached school by 8:30 AM and marked my attendance. The day was packed with kitchen duty and lunch duty, both of which gave me a sense of responsibility and pride. The highlight of the day was assisting with the NAS exam for 9th graders, where we corrected papers and tallied right and wrong answers—a challenging but insightful task. After marking our afternoon attendance at 3:45 PM, we left the campus.

Tuesday started as usual, with the morning prayer, pledge, and news. The workload has been increasing, making school days more hectic. I had only evening line duty and one class in the 6th period with 9 I, where I discussed redox reactions. The students were deeply engaged, balancing their lessons with enthusiastic youth festival practice. Each day at school teaches me valuable lessons—not just about teaching but also about student management, encouragement, and discipline.

Wednesday felt like a fresh start. Before heading to school, I mentally prepared myself, reflecting on my first round of observation. One key takeaway was the need to control my speed while teaching. In the 3rd period, I introduced the topic balancing the equations. The students' curiosity and competitive spirit during activities made the session lively. Watching them race to complete their tasks first was truly a joy! At 3:45 PM, we marked our attendance and wrapped up for the day. Meanwhile, the MTTC trainees completed their first phase of teaching practice and returned to college.

Thursday was a rainy day, making two-wheeler rides a challenge! The morning was spent at college, signing lesson plans, reflective journals, and submitting other work. Back at school by 8:45 AM, I had lunch duty, where we took some curry and pickles from the kitchen. The staff treated us like teachers, which felt heartwarming. In the 6th period, I conducted a revision session for IX I, focusing on key points from redox reactions, as students prepared for their term exams on the 28th. The revision helped them clarify doubts and gain confidence.

As the week unfolded, each day brought new challenges and learnings, making my teaching practice more enriching and rewarding. Looking forward to the journey ahead!

The week wrapped up with a rainy Friday, making the morning commute a challenge. The heavy downpour delayed many, and several students were absent due to the weather. Despite this, the day carried its own charm.

I had lunch duty, which, as always, was an interesting experience. In the 7th period, I took a class with 8th S, revising the portions for their Monday examination. It felt fulfilling to guide them through their preparation.

Lately, I’ve found myself truly enjoying teaching practice. The desire to become a good teacher is growing stronger each day. Observing students from diverse family backgrounds reminds me of the importance of empathy in teaching—understanding them as individuals and nurturing their potential.

With every lesson, every interaction, and every challenge, this journey continues to shape me. Looking forward to what’s next!

Tuesday was another pleasant day. Since students had exams, there were no substitution periods in the first three periods.  The class was highly interactive, with students actively participating in discussions. I also had lunch duty and evening line duty, wrapping up the day by 4:00 PM.

Thursday was a special day—the entire school came alive with the Kerala Piravi celebrations! After days of practice, students showcased an amazing performance. I had two substitution periods with 8th N, but the highlight was witnessing the celebrations. The energy, creativity, and enthusiasm of the students made it one of the best Kerala Piravi events I have ever seen. Thursday was another eventful day as we returned to the auditorium. After marking attendance at 8:45 AM, we waited to collect the substitution list. The trainees from KUCTE Kariyavattom managed this task.

Due to electrical maintenance, there was a power outage, so we helped in the kitchen, cutting a large amount of vegetables. It was an unexpected but interesting experience. In the 4th period, I had a substitution class in 8th S, where I interacted with students. Later, in the 6th period, we revised chapters for the achievement test, and students cooperated well. After 4:00 PM, I left the school.Friday arrived with low energy as the week's fatigue set in. The thought of the Saturday and Sunday break kept me going! I had lunch duty, which was completed smoothly.

In my last period with 8th S, I checked the students' notes and realized that many were incomplete. Due to this, the achievement test scheduled for Monday was postponed. The lack of proper interaction with the concerned teacher also posed a challenge. After marking attendance in the evening, I left school, looking forward to a refreshing weekend.

Tuesday was all about preparing for the achievement test. After arriving at 8:30 AM, I marked my attendance and carefully rechecked the test questions. The test was conducted in 8th N during a substitution period.

The test results left me feeling a bit disappointed—I questioned whether the students fully understood the lessons. While some performed well, others struggled, making me reflect on ways to improve my teaching methods. The day ended at 4:00 PM after evening line duty.
